An Artistic Lift for Narvik

The Operaretta Czardasfyrstinnen was produced by Opera i Narvik and Den Norske Operaen (DNO) for the 40th Jubilee of co-operation between Riksoperaen and Narvik.

Eighty amateurs from Narvik and thrity five professionals from DNO, worked together to give three memorable performances 19th – 21st October 1997 at Folkets. Hus, Narvik.

A debate at the time discussed the degree to which the community could afford to support large productions like Czardasfyrstinnen, where local and national artists performed; concluded that without council support for operetta and other performing arts, Narvik’s vibrant cultural life would wither on the vine.
