The opera Dido and Aeneas was set up in Narvik by Johan K. Singstad a teacher at Villaveien School and Solhaugen Upper Secondary High School. The opera was initially underfinanced, however Narvik Energi AS stepped in as the project sponsor under the banner “We Support Culture”. The premiere was at 20:00 on the 22nd of May 1996 at Folkets Hus, Narvik, with the second performance the next evening. There were also two shows for school children run at 13:00 on the 22nd and 23rd of May.
Solhaugen was responsible for all stage props, costumes, the poster and the program.
